History:

It all began back in the 1950s when a castle visitor asked the director of the museum why there weren't any ducks in the castle pond. Therefor in the years 1956 ducks came to the pond, so did some roe deer and a pheasantry and suddenly castle also had a smaal zoo for local animals. Visitors came and it became so popular that a tv program was made about the zoo. Since the zoo got several animal donations like nilgai, zabras, bisons, cougars and macaws. 1975 the old director of the castle retired and the new director decided to concentrate on German animals, to protect and breed them. Which did succeed in a scale, that serveral german animals where bred here for the first time in Germany. This conservations does go on to today and since 1994 its nationally recognised. Since 2011 it has a masterplan making it leading German zoo, the first step was the enclosure for bears, that opened 2013.

After paying the entrance fee we are having the Malabar tropical house in front of us. Among others it the home for cuban crocodiles and pygmy hippos. Then following the enclosures for Galapagos tortoise and the alpine ibex befor we reach the European Otters. Behind it we find the enclosure for Brown bears. Passing the  golde eagles we now se the red-necked wallaby. Turning left and looking at zebras we turn right and on the right se sabel antelopes. Following the enclosure for Humboldt's penguin we se macaws and monkeys like the tufted capuchin. Across is the peasantry with owls and squirrels. Then following are Patagonian maras and to the right Hissar sheep. After the honey bee we are having the Chital, the favorit prey of the Tiger next. Here we also find lions. Other carnivores in the zoo are the following fennec fox and serval. At the Indian porcupines we walk back to the Amur tiger and our way meet Indian leopards, meerkats and spider monkeys. Turning right kids can go inside the petting zoo and touch goats. Then its time to se the rhea and the llama. Acroos is an aviary for Lar gibbons. Behind a poultry yard we se the alpaca and Bactrian camels. Other exotic farm animals are the Guinea pig, today quite common as pet. In front of us we now are having the castle, in front of it we find greater flamingos and the great white pelican.
